Keeping our brain fit is even more important than keeping our body fit. Our Brain health state affects everything we do – thinking, remembering, working, socializing and even sleeping. Unfortunately, we usually tend to forget that our own little mind better be kept hale and hearty.

Here are some nice tips that you can add to your routine to ensure your brain stays fit and healthy:

1) Adopt a brain fit lifestyle

Like most parts of your body, your brain may lose some agility as you get older. It can deteriorate even more if you don’t take care of it. So, adopt a healthy life style and make brain fit oriented choices. In other words: Always keep your brain in mind.

2) Stay mentally active

Activities that are stimulating and engaging strengthen brain cells and the connections between them and may also create new neurons! Crossword puzzles, Scrabble and Sudoku games are a fun way to stimulate your brain.

3) Socially Active

Social activity makes is more than enjoyable: it can decrease stress levels and provides much needed emotional support which helps maintain healthy connections between neurons. One can engage themselves in travel, sports or other cultural or social activities.

4) Physical Exercise

Physical exercise is very important for providing much needed blood flow to the brain as well as to encourage new brain cell production. It also significantly reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It is especially effective when done on bi-weekly basis with a mix of healthy brain-diet, mental exercise and social interaction.

5) Eat a brain-healthy diet

A healthy diet results in a healthy brain. Research suggests that high cholesterol may contribute to stroke and brain cell damage. Eat low fat, low in cholesterol diet, rich in dark vegetables and fruits, which contain antioxidants, And you’ll protect brain cells long term!
